Honoring a vision, Empowering a Future
The Pa‘ani Challenge was born from the vision of our late founder and board chair, David Lundquist, who believed in the power of inspiring young women to dream beyond high school. His goal was to encourage the next generation to explore life’s possibilities and step confidently into their future.
In 2010, that vision became a reality with the launch of our very first Pa‘ani Challenge. What started as a bold idea has grown into a celebrated event that brings together hundreds of girls from across Hawai‘i and the mainland. Most recently, nearly 400 participants joined us from teams spanning the Hawaiian Islands and beyond.
This incredible growth has been made possible through the generous support of Hardware Hawai‘i (David’s company), its vendor partners, and local organizations who share our commitment to empowering young women.
Today, our passionate volunteer board remains dedicated to carrying forward David’s legacy—ensuring the Pa‘ani Challenge continues to uplift, inspire, and make a lasting impact.

Discover What’s Next
Explore a world of possibilities at our Educational & Career Fair—a dynamic experience designed to help students envision their future. Meet representatives from colleges, universities, the military, first responders, and a variety of trades and industries who are ready to share insights, answer questions, and provide valuable guidance.
With over 50 organizations participating, students have the opportunity to learn about diverse pathways and make informed choices as they plan for life beyond high school.

Empowering Coaches & Parents
Join our dedicated workshops for coaches and parents—designed to equip you with tools to better support the young women in your life. These engaging sessions focus on fostering athletic and academic growth, building positive self-esteem, and creating an environment where girls can truly thrive.
Led for many years by the Positive Coaching Alliance, these workshops offer proven strategies to help girls succeed both on and off the mat.

Wrestling Clinic & Statewide Competition
Step onto the mat and take part in our specialized wrestling clinic, where experienced coaches and athletes provide hands-on training, technique development, and motivational support. This is a unique opportunity to sharpen your skills, build confidence, and grow as both an athlete and individual.
We’re honored to have Clarissa Chun—Hawai‘i’s own Olympian and the head women’s wrestling coach at the University of Iowa—leading this clinic at The Pa‘ani Challenge for many years.
Following the clinic, girls of all experience levels are invited to compete in a statewide wrestling tournament designed to empower and inspire. Each participant will have the chance to wrestle in 3–4 matches, regardless of skill level, promoting self-confidence, personal growth, and a strong sense of camaraderie.

Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders
Through the experiences offered at The Pa‘ani Challenge, high school girls gain the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to pursue educational and career paths that align with their passions and potential. Our goal is to empower them to become their best selves—ready to thrive in their futures and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
